Cara Sur Pergolas Criollas Blancas 2022 Natural/Organic production from the Barreal Valley, San Juan, Argentina, the lesser known neighbour of Mendoza. Very close to the Andes, altitude at the vineyard is well in excess of 1500 metres. The Vineyard is characterized by hot days and cool nights due to its high altitude with the cool nights helping to retain a high level of acidity in the final wine. The soils are sandy and alluvial with the vines varying in age from 50-100 years old! The varietals are a blend of Torrontes,, Sanjuanino and Mendocino as well as other Criolla varieties. The grapes are hand harvested, there is indigenous yeast fermentation with some skin contact for 21 days and matured in concrete where it develops a fino sherry like flor. It is then matured for seven months in concrete tanks, neutral oak barrels, and 50 litre demijohns on the lees. It has rich floral aromas with some citrus and tropical fruit. Juicy and vibrant on the palate with notes of tangy apricot, stewed orchard fruit and a somewhat refreshing slightly saline character. Cracking little wine! Is Vegan?
